Many of us associate the aging process with pain, sickness and taking handfuls of prescription drugs on a daily basis. But does it have to be this way? Absolutely not!
While it’s true that certain diseases or conditions may be hereditary or genetic, the vast majority of age related illness can be prevented or reduced by regular exercise and proper diet.
Much focus has been placed on this subject in recent years in light of the fact that the “baby boomers” (Baby boomers are people born during the demographic Post–World War II baby boom between the years 1946 and 1964)
are now approaching their retirement years. Our society in general is much more well informed than in previous decades about fitness, gyms, & the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Many of our aging boomers are choosing to adopt this lifestyle (if they haven’t been living it already) and the results speak for themselves. A recent article in the Guardian magazine encourages medical practitioners to actively engage with their patients about exercise, lifestyle, and their gym & fitness habits. All of which they point out as having a greater success rate than many prescription drugs commonly being prescribed. It goes on to say that breast cancer risk is cut by 25%, bowel cancer by 35%, and strokes by 30%. Type 2 Diabetes can be reduced from anywhere between 30-50%!
