About Ron Zalko
Ron Zalko is the founder and CEO of Ron Zalko Fitness & Yoga.
Ron Zalko started the fitness revolution in Vancouver in the late 1970’s. He is a pioneer in the Vancouver fitness industry beginning his journey to health, wellness and fitness in 1978, opening his first location in 1980. Ron began as being overweight at 222 lbs and worked his way to a trim 154 lb athlete. He inspired many people to get fit and to change their lifestyle.
He worked with Jane Fonda in Vancouver when she was on the cover of time magazine as the Queen of Aerobics and she endorsed the iconic Ron Zalko Workout. Ron’s was the first fitness centre to offer aerobics in Canada and the first fitness centre to offer yoga & spinning in Vancouver. Ron’s experience in fitness allowed him to have a facility with a very unique concept & programs which attract members of all ages to his club.
He was the first Canadian to complete the Hawaiian Ironman World Championships in Kona in 1981 and also raced again in 1982. Ron is also the founder, visionary, and architect of Ironman Canada an annual event for 30 years in Penticton before finding a new home in Whistler. In addition, Ron has many marathons and 10k races under his belt.
Over the years Ron has hosted and/or trained many celebrities at his club including Lady Gaga, Faye Dunaway, Diane Carol, Donny Osmond, Seal, Triple H, Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson, Jessica Biel, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Micheal Clark Duncan, Alannis Morisette, Zac Efron, Amanda Seyfried, Bif Naked, and Eric McCormick to name just a few.
Ron has often been called “the Fitness Guru of Vancouver” as his dedication to all things heath, fitness, and a healthy lifestyle has never wavered over the years. He continues to be an inspiration to many people and a pillar of the fitness community.
